POWERCHINA signs Melaka marine reclamation project
Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) and Kaiser Project Management Co Ltd signed a design and building contract and related agreements concerning the first-stage Melaka Gateway marine reclamation project in Melaka, Malaysia on July 18.
The project is of national-level importance for Malaysia. It involves the marine reclamation of 609 acres and the construction of revetments and bulwarks.
According to the plans, the first island will include tourism, cultural heritage, and entertainment regions; the second island will be for commerce, business, provision, and high technology, and will include a logistics center; the third and fourth islands will house a deep water wharf and a coastal high technology industrial park. The project will help to increase the competitiveness of Melaka in maritime transport.
Malaysia is an important member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the earliest nation responding to China's "Belt and Road" initiative. The nation is also a traditional and core market of POWERCHINA. The project will have positive influence on the development of Malaysia's infrastructure and economy and the friendship between China and Malaysia, and will promote cooperation between China and countries neighboring Malaysia.
